Organ works by Boris Getselev are a significant phenomenon in Russian music of last decades. Getselev belongs to generation the 1960’s. His youth, formation of aesthetic and artistic principles, style formation have fallen to 60th years of the last century, a «thaw» epoch that left a certain imprint on the composer’s creative character.

Boris Getselev (1940-2021) was born in Kujbyshev (Samara). In 1966 he graduated from the Gorky (Nizhny Novgorod) M.I. Glinka Conservatory with A.A. Nesterov, then took a post-graduate course under R.K. Shchedrin. Since 1965 Boris Semyonovich has taught at the Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory, at the Department of Composition and Instrumentation, since 1988 as head of the department, since 1994 as а professor. He was Secretary of the Russian Composers’ Union, Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the Russian Composers’ Union, Honoured Art Worker of Russia, Laureate of the Dmitry Shostakovich Prize, Laureate of the Nizhny Novgorod Prize. He is the author of researches about 20th century music, in 2005 his book «Articles, portraits, translations, journalism, materials» was published. Getselev conducted active public work, held concerts, seminars, conferences, festivals, for many years chaired the jury of the Young Composer competition, which now bears his name; he is the founder and ideological inspirer of the International Festival of Contemporary Music «Pictures from the Exhibition», six festivals were held under his artistic direction (2003-2017).

Boris Getselev’s oeuvre features opuses in different genres: TV-opera «March-April», five symphonies, instrumental concertos, other symphonic works, a number of chamber ensembles, piano music, 35 vocal cycles, a lot of choral works, music for the theater, a special sphere of his creativity – compositions for children.

A worthy place in this range is occupied by organ compositions: Symphony for organ solo «Bas-reliefs» in four movements (1985), piece «The Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin» (1988), Three Choralpreludes (1997), «Dialogues» for marimba and organ (2001), Trio cantabile for soprano, cello and organ (2002), «Diplomatic Talks» in three rounds for harpsichord and organ (2009), «Reflections» for cello and organ (2010), Scherzo-pastoral for oboe and organ (2014) and Cadence for Organ concerto F-dur by J. Haydn (1982).
